Ministry - The Land of Rape and Honey (live Toronto 1988)

The excellent live video of "So What?" has disappeared from the tubes so I had to go with my second favorite.

The Clientele - We Could Walk Together (live)

So I'm sitting here with a glass of Glenlivet and Linda Colley's Britons, listening to this record...not too bad considering what a bad couple weeks it's been.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Howl

Still strugglin' a bit in my personal life, so here's another downer.

Sunday, March 1, 2009

T.Rex - 20th Century Boy

God, this riff is awesome.

Wanted a live version but it was either bad quality or TOTP-type "not really live."

E-Town Concrete - Mandibles

Hello, internet. It's been a minute.

I'm not sure how I feel about this band. I mean...it's heavy, but at the same time...it's kind of like if John Cena decided to start a hardcore band. They came up in a discussion with a friend the other day so I figured might as well throw it up.

I really wanted to put up "Baptism" but there's no decent video of it, sadly.

BORIS Doubleshot..."Statement" and "My Neighbor Satan"

OK so these songs rip beyond any real logical level of uh, rippage.

But when I worked at Hot Topic (yeah yeah) and we had "Smile" on the store stereo, "Statement" was on there...and it's not on any version of the record I've obtained since...in fact, the records I've gotten have been almost totally different from what I heard in-store. Come on now.

Dog Eat Dog - Who's The King? (Live)

I have been trying to figure out for about a year why I like this song so damn much.

Live @ Dynamo 1995

Sparks - This Town Ain't Big Enough

TOTP 1975

Giving the sad shit a break, I took some Sudafed PE earlier and it's giving me the most wicked medicine head ever...so let's get weird.

Lou Reed and John Cale - Berlin (Live)

Live in Paris 1972.

Alkaline Trio - Cringe (Live)

Alright, that's enough. Back to my wallowing in self-pity.

At least I'm doing it with decent music.

Smoking Popes - Born To Run (live)

This is the only Springsteen song I like and I couldn't find any good versions of "Let's Hear It For Love," which is what I really wanted to put up.

Live on JBTV.

Nine Inch Nails with David Bowie - Hurt (Live)

I just got dumped this weekend so now all six of my readers get to deal with soul-crushing videos for the next couple weeks.

But in all seriousness...this video...best ever or best ever?

The Specials - Skinhead Moonstop (Live)

GIMME SOME OF THAT OLD FASHIONED....MOOOONSTOMPIN

Unrest - Make Out Club

I'm having problems coming up with things to say about these videos lately.

Remember makeoutclub.com?

That shit was whack.

They Might Be Giants - Ana Ng

Nothing much to say beyond this is a fun song with an equally fun video.

Sunday, February 8, 2009

Dizzee Rascal - Sirens

Concept-wise, this is one of my favorite videos of the last few years.

I miss the "video as art" concept.

Cowboy Junkies - Sweet Jane

It's been a minute, but most of the stuff I've wanted to put up lately is embed-disabled.

Wednesday, January 28, 2009

The Psychedelic Furs - Heaven

Like hell am I going to pick something as obvious as "Pretty In Pink."

H2O - What Happened?

One of the best records of last year. I loved putting this track on when I worked at Hot Topic and watching people totally miss the inherent irony of that song being played in that place.

Also, Matt Skiba is gorgeous.

Dance Area Ft. Austin Boston - AA/247

One of the things I'm very, very excited about this year is the seeming resurgence of 90s rave.

Wednesday, January 21, 2009

The Stone Roses - Love Spreads

More proof to my claim that Manchester is the greatest music-producing city of the 20th century.

Drugs.

Friday, January 16, 2009

The Statler Brothers - Flowers on the Wall

This is my favorite song of all time. I kid you not.

Mayhem - Freezing Moon (Wacken 2004)

As of writing this, it is -15 degrees Fahrenheit in Aurora. After you factor in the windchill, it's a balmy -33. It's been like this for almost two days, and it's not supposed to warm up til Sunday or Monday.

So in honor of these ball-crushing temperatures...

First of all, what idiot booked Mayhem to play in the middle of the day? The intro to this song crushes.

The Tea Party - Temptation

Fun Fact: I really liked this song. Then I saw the video and liked it a little less.

Bad Brains - Big Take Over (CBGB's 1982)

One of the best nights of my life was when I locked myself in my room with a six-pack and the Bad Brains CBGB's 1982 DVD and watched it four times in a row.

N.E.R.D. - Everybody Nose (Remix)

Total banger, minimal beat and the only Lupe verse I've ever truly loved which is kind of sad since it's a bit of a novelty verse. Hilarious video, too.

The Undertones - Teenage Kicks

Let's round out my opening trio of videos with a band that was better than the Buzzcocks.

The Thermals - Pillar of Salt

One of my favorite records and songs of the last couple years. Flawless pop that never fails to make me smile.

Oasis - Don't Look Back in Anger (City of Manchester Stadium, 2005)

Simple concept.

At least once a day a new music video gets posted with a brief comment.

Let's start with the greatest band of my generation. If you don't get goosebumps during the first chorus then there is something wrong with you.
